Yoga is good

As much as I LOVE my daughter and take my role as mother 24/7 very seriously, it is lovely to get away once and a while to focus on myself and do the things I enjoy alone. I think this helps me keep my sanity intact.

Tonight was yoga night at the gym and for the first time in a couple of months I was able to attend.  I love classes at the gym, it's really the only reason that I joined. I was interested in yoga but didn't want to pay the crazy high prices at the local yoga studios. So instead I got a Goodlife membership and only go for the classes. I avoid the treadmills and weight machines like they're the plague. I think this has helped me go on a consistent basis (pre-Caitlyn) and actually keep my membership longer than the obligatory 1 year contract. All other memberships I've held ended with my not going after 3 months and paying for a year. The approach I take now is only do the things I find interesting without focusing so much on getting fit. The getting fit part is simply a happy side-effect.

The challenge I'm having these days is getting away to the gym on a regular basis. I've lost the consistency but definitely not the desire to go. My goal over the next little while is to get that consistency back so that I can continue to focus little parts of the week on myself.

Tonight's class was wonderfully relaxing. The entire class was on the mat and I was really able to relax. In order to continue the theme of the evening I'm currently drinking a glass of Shiraz and will later be enjoying some decaf green tea to top off the night.

I thought I would leave the image of me attempting a downward dog pose to your imagination and instead offer you this lovely picture of a very happy Caitlyn to end the day.

What types of things do you do with your "me time"?

Giggles

Caitlyn is now 5 months old and is changing every day. There's always something new and funny and it's just great.

Today Daddy was on the floor playing and making her laugh. So so cute... notice the high pitched squeals in the video, this is her new favorite thing. She must have squealed like that for an hour and a half straight today. I'm surprised she hasn't lost that loud adorable little voice of hers.

Enjoy our newest video...

Bonus for Daddy today. She rolled over back to front and then front to back, it's the first time he's seen it live. Big day!!

Cottage Fun

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!! We went away to our friend Trevor's cottage for the weekend and had a wonderful time.

We relaxed, swam, took lots of pictures and just had a nice time in general. Caitlyn's teething has calmed down over the last week so she was in a very good mood over the weekend.

I made sure to get some great photos of Caitlyn and me, recently I realized that since I'm always behind the camera I never get any mother/daughter shots.

We're so grateful to Trevor for inviting our family out for the weekend.

Enjoy!!

Beautiful sunsets..

Happy baby

Everyone went for an evening swim

except for Caitlyn and me, we hung out on the deck and did some self-portraits

it was very windy and very wavy

Excercising the vocal cords

Thank you so much for your suggestions for help with Caitlyn's teething problems. Frozen washcloths and Advil are working well together. I'm definitely going to try keeping her soothers in the fridge and see if that helps her. She's not on solids quite yet so I'm going to wait to try the frozen fruit but I will be keeping it in my bag of tricks for the future.

Caitlyn has been doing a lot more talking over the last couple days. Her motto seems to be "the louder the better" I managed to capture some video of her chatting up a storm. Every time I see her doing this it makes me laugh and it's the times like this that I forget all about the teething issues.

Teething trouble

Oh man! I know I usually post the happy lovely parts of being a mom but this week has been full of the not so happy, screaming baby.

Yes, Caitlyn is teething. I thought I had a couple more months until it started but it looks like she's full into the joy of teething. It has been 3 days of fussiness, crying and hardly any napping and whoever said the peak of crying was at 6 weeks was not thinking about my lovely daughter. Funny how these things sort of sneak up you.

I definitely believe in fate after this month. Just when I'm in the throes of helping my daughter deal with her pain I got the newest issue of Today's Parent magazine. I like this magazine for all its helpful advice and articles. It has a great stages section in every issue that discuss a concern related to the different age groups. Guess what this months 0-12 month problem was: Teething! It was like someone knew I would need advice this week and sent it to me. Total Fate! The article had some great information about what you can do to relieve teething pain including: teething rings, frozen washcloths, advil or tylenol. It did not recommend gels with benzocaine and was neither for or against homeopathic solutions. The advice lined up completely with my local pharmacist almost to the letter which was pretty impressive. Glad to see everyone is on the same page. I tried most of the  solutions: teething rings were a total fail, the frozen washcloth was alright for about 2 minutes. In the end pediatric Advil won out. While I'm not a fan of using drugs on my daughter, I believe there comes a point when cuddling needs a little outside help and the advil did the trick. My little girl is sleeping comfortably upstairs and I'm about to have a well deserved Mill Street Organic beer.

At one point throughout this ordeal Caitlyn fell asleep comfortably in my arms and proceeded to flip me the bird. I think maybe it's because I took too long to give in and pick up some Advil for my poor girl.

Any advice from other mom's on how you handled teething?

Lots of visitors

This week has been pretty busy with visiting. We went camping for a couple of days and had company from out of town. I just love seeing Caitlyn interact with other people and babies especially when she's being a sweet heart which wasn't always the case this week.

We had a wonderful night camping with Great-Grandma and Grandpa. Caitlyn got to meet her new cousin Kenzie who is just 3 weeks younger than Caitlyn. They were curious about each other but didn't gab too much.

A funny thing about babies is that they sure do pick the people that they like to hold them. When my Grandparents came to visit us last week Caitlyn would go to Grandma just fine but every time we passed her to my Grandpa she would cry almost immediately. No idea why. The opposite happens with Kenzie, she will go to Grandpa but not Grandma. So when we had them both together it was nice because each grandparent got to hold one of the babies.

Yesterday we had our good friends Dean and Bobbi and their kids over to visit. They live far away and we only get together a couple of times a year. This was their first chance to meet Caitlyn. These are two people who just LOVE babies so I was happy to let Caitlyn have all kinds of cuddle time with them.

The great thing about visiting other people who have kids is that they understand if your baby is crying or needs to be fed, so no apologies necessary but they also have all kids of stuff you can use. We went for a walk later in the evening and it was great because their daughter Alison was able to use our spare stroller. Or when we went to visit friends in Windsor they had a chair we could use for Caitlyn. It really helps save on the amount of stuff you need to bring with you when traveling.

Hope you have an awesome weekend!!

Tummy time

Today has been nice and relaxing so far. We spent some time on the floor taking pictures and had Great-Grandma and Grandpa over for lunch. I love having company over to visit, especially when I get to make them food. Cooking is one of my favorite past times and I really enjoy putting on a nice dinner for friends and family. It makes me so proud when I know I've made a great meal for the people I love.

Caitlyn was a doll for most of the visit. Although for some reason every time I passed her to Great-Grandpa she started crying. It was really strange actually because she's never been one to be shy with anyone. Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come. The good news is Great-Grandma got to cuddle plenty with our little girl.

Caitlyn is finally starting to enjoy tummy time. I think the fact that she is able to stay propped up on her arms and look around has a lot to do with how much she know enjoys it. That, and the fun of rolling over :)

For your enjoyment...

This could be one of my favorite pictures of Caitlyn so far.

More excersaucer action shots. She loves this thing more and more every day.

Well hello there! Sorry I've been away, I've had a bit of writers block the past couple of weeks. I know seems crazy considering I haven't even been blogging that long, but hey I'm back now!

This past weekend I went out for a night with the girls for the first time since Caitlyn was born. It was lots of fun, but man did I miss my baby girl. She spent the evening with her Daddy while I went out bar hopping for a bachelorette party.  I've discovered that while it is nice to have a night out with a bunch of girls but I'm definitely not the bar type anymore.

Caitlyn is growing like crazy. She had her 4 month check up and now weighs 12lbs 12oz, more than double her birth weight. She's also gained 6 inches and is 24.5 inches long. She took her 4 month needles like a champ and the Dr says she's in perfect health. These days she's talking all the time, her goos and gahs are so cute and loud sweet. She's also rolled over from front to back a few times, although never when Brock is home. Not sure why she's hiding her skills from Daddy.

Anyhow, here's a couple of photos to enjoy.

I came home the other day to find Brock and Caitlyn passed out on the couch together. I couldn't help but snap a quick photo.  Fluffy Chick and Friends is her favorite book so far. She loves how soft it is and the crinkling noise the front page makes.
