Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone!

What an amazing weekend. We had the grandparents watching Caitlyn and went out to a Halloween party with some of our best friends. I'm really happy that Caitlyn is getting old enough that I'm not so nervous to leave her and am able to go out, relax and have a great time.

Funny thing about being a mom and going out with other moms, most of the night my conversations were all about the kids. Also, since a couple of our friends were expecting we also discussed labor, delivery and body quirks that I won't go into here since my Dad reads the blog :)  Perhaps one day when Caitlyn is all grown up I'll be back to having conversations about other stuff. Worst part is I can't really remember what we used to chat about, I think it mostly had to do with scrapbooking and complaints about our significant others.

Today Caitlyn got to wear costume #2. You'll remember that Labor day weekend she was a Prize Winning Pumpkin. Well for Halloween meet my little Bumblebee!

How did you celebrate the spooky holiday??

Relaxed and Rejuvenated

Have you ever just wanted to get away for a weekend to do something that you love? I have, and I managed to do it this past weekend!

Scrap and Crop is a weekend scrapbooking event organized by my good friend Alicia Smith. Essentially, it is a bunch of women in a room scrapbooking from 9am to 11pm Saturday and 9am to 4pm Sunday. That's right folks I scrapbooked for a total of 21 hours over 2 days and I LOVED every minute of it.

Caitlyn turned 7 months old on Saturday and this was the longest I've been away from her, its also the first time that Daddy has had to care for Caitlyn from morning until night for an entire weekend. Needless to say while I came home Sunday rejuvenated and relaxed, he was exhausted.

I missed my daughter like crazy and it was made a little worse by the fact that I was staring at pictures of her all weekend. But I definitely needed this time away. After not doing it for about a year, I had forgotten a little how much I actually love to scrapbook. I'm so glad to have found my passion for creating beautiful scrapbooks again.

Anyway I guess the point of this post is that while being a mom is the most wonderful thing there is. Don't forget to schedule in some "me" time to help keep your sanity.

On a side note and in order to include a picture in this post I though I would share that I've been knitting up a storm lately. Here's Caitlyn's first even knit toque just in time for winter.

The wheels on the bus go round and round...

We took a little road trip this week to visit some family that Caitlyn had yet to meet. I really love traveling north where the scenery is hilly and full of trees. The fall colours are just beautiful and it makes me feel so good to be away from big cities and breathing in the fresh north air.

Surprisingly Caitlyn did quite well on the 6 hour drive there and relatively well on the way home. She was so tired on the trip home from a busy couple of days and had no desire at all to stay quietly in her car seat. In the end the last half hour of the trip consisted of me singing the few children's songs that I know she likes over and over and over again. It went something like this:

Wheels on the bus
Ants go marching
Wheels on the bus
Wheels on the bus
Ants go marching
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Ants go marching....

The problem was that most of Caitlyn's favorite songs involve actions that have her lifted up in the air and since we were in the car and that wasn't exactly possible I was stuck with the few songs that didn't have actions. Whatever works right...

On the way there we had a sleeping angel for most of the trip

Caitlyn puts up with all the silly things I do to her quite well. Like leaving a little blanket on her head

and of course what is a family visit without some family pictures

Happy Thanksgiving

This past weekend was the Canadian Thanksgiving. We had a wonderful weekend spent with our family. From Turkey dinners to some fun at the Brigden Fair.  I really love traveling to visit our family but I have to admit crawling into my own bed after a long weekend away feels amazing as well.

Fairs are great, they remind me of my childhood. We had a ton of fun although looking through my pictures I'm realizing that I need to make sure to take more next time. There were so many great moments this weekend and I have so few pictures to tell the story. Oh well, live and learn!

What we do have is some matching colored tongues from fair slushies:

Yellow
and blue
matching facial expressions from Caitlyn and Aunt Jeannette. We had to keep Caitlyn naked at the fair because I was not not prepared for how hot it would be and only had long sleeve stuff for her to wear. Again I say, live and learn.

and Caitlyn played her first ever fair game. She was successful at taking out two ducks and a shark from the pond.

I hope all my fans had a wonderful Thanksgiving and took some time to enjoy themselves.

Our First Family Photo Shoot

Hope you like the new header and blog colors. I've been waiting forever to have an awesome picture to customize my header with and our photographer Dawn Boyce took the perfect one. If only it hadn't taken me 2.5 hours to figure out how to get it on the blog and looking nice. I never would have thought it would be that hard to figure out.

Anyhow....

As promised here's a sampling of some of my favorite pictures from the photo shoot we did with Dawn Boyce Photography September 11th.

Dawn and her husband Matt were awesome. They had a lot of patience and some great ideas for poses. I love the pictures so much.

Enjoy!!

Where's the pot of gold?

This was outside my house tonight

I have never seen a rainbow so bright or complete. Made me feel lucky and lifted my mood so much. Thought I would share the love with all of you.

This afternoon I decided to stick Caitlyn in a basket.

She wasn't overly impressed, so I added some toys.

and she became a little happier

Have an awesome evening!!

Fun With Food

So I have really been enjoying trying out new foods with Caitlyn over the past week. She's loving the solids adventure and I've been getting a kick out of seeing her reaction with each new food.

So far she's tried sweet potato, rice cereal, peaches, carrots and beets. On the menu tomorrow is butternut squash.

Caitlyn has liked everything she's tried so far except one, can you guess which food she hates??

I'll give you a hint:
  • its round
  • its orangeish in colour
  • its fuzzy
  • it comes in clingstone or freestone (something I just learned this year)

That's right everyone, she hates PEACHES! I couldn't believe it when I gave her the peaches and saw her reaction. She puckered her face, had a head shake and basically gagged. I tried mixing it with her rice cereal which she loves and she wouldn't touch it. The whole meal was wasted. I tried giving it to her 3 times in two days and have given up. We'll try again in couple of weeks and hopefully she'll change her mind.

The beets have been a great success surprisingly. She was a little uncertain at first but has come around to them quite well. Brock took a few pictures the other day of her eating beets and they remind me of something else entirely: Interview with the Vampire. There's something about those red eyes and lips that is making her look very sinister.

More please...
We also had some friends up for the weekend.  I love seeing Caitlyn with her little baby friends, especially now that she's showing more interest in other kids. Makes me so excited for next summer when she'll be older and able to really play with others.

They had some staring contests and even held hands, unfortunately I wasn't quick enough with the camera for that one.

The great thing about having other parents over is that they totally get it when your baby starts crying and the evening comes to a standstill in order to comfort her.

All the bragging I've been doing about Caitlyn back fired last night big time. She's been teething again and as a result we didn't have the most relaxing of evenings. Eventually Caitlyn fell asleep in bed with me and that's where she stayed for the night. Some times I think she just needs to be close to her mommy and I'm very happy to oblige.

Coming up this week: We went for a photo shoot and had some amazing pictures taken a few weeks ago and I get to pick up the CD tomorrow. So watch for a post with some samples pictures.
