Bath Time

This is usually Daddy and Caitlyn's special time together, however Brock hurt his back recently and hasn't been able to bath Caitlyn. I've been enjoying taking over for a little while.

Caitlyn loves her baths and I love watching her have fun. She splashes and plays and rarely sheds a tear (even when I accidentally get water in her eyes).  While I know Brock is definitely looking forward to returning to bath duty I'm going to soak it up while I can.

Caitlyn's First Christmas cont'd

Wow! What a crazy few days. We visited family and more family. We ate food, opened gifts, played with Caitlyn. It was incredible and yet I'm very happy to be sitting here relaxing while wearing my new snuggie. Who knew a blanket with arms would be the perfect thing to keep me warm while blogging.

Funny story about the snuggies, I had been teasing my Dad for at least a couple of months that I was buying him a snuggie for Christmas. They always keep their house pretty cold so a blanket with arms would be the perfect gift. Dad threatened that if I bought him one he would cut it up and use it for rags. As much as I wanted to get him one, just for a gag I didn't want to waste money on something that wouldn't be used. Imagine my delight when I opened a snuggie from my Mom for Christmas. My first thought was that I was wearing it to Dad's house. Then I opened a second snuggie at Dad's! So now Brock and I have matching snuggies and I most definitely won't be using them for rags. Maybe next year I'll tease him about buying a car :)
When we last left off Caitlyn was napping and I was getting ready for a very busy couple of days.  Caitlyn's at that stage where she experiences stranger/separation anxiety especially when she's tired so when her mood stayed good throughout the Christmas festivities I was very happy.

One obvious thing that was made even more obvious during the holidays is that we are loved. Our families are incredibly generous, thoughtful and loving. We couldn't be more lucky!

Also, my daughter is definitely not camera shy! Practically every picture we took, she's staring directly at the camera wide eyed with a big smile. Even when I stuck a bunch of bows to her head.

We forgot to get a family portrait this Christmas. Oops!! I'll have to remember that for next year. We did however manage to get a lovely mother/daughter picture.

Overall, this was the best Christmas that I can remember. While I know that in years to come this season will be more exciting, I'm cherishing this one.

You only ever experience your first child's first Christmas once.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I have been waiting for this day for a long time. Exactly one year ago today, Brock and I found out we were having a little girl. Here she is now, 9 months old and experiencing her very first Christmas.

In true excited child fashion she barely slept last night waking us up at least three times. Then she woke up for good at 6am. Usually she sleeps in until at least 7am, must have been the excitement of knowing Santa had come and she had lots of gifts under the tree.

She did really well in opening her gifts. She often wanted to eat the wrapping paper more than see what was underneath but we helped her along.

Caitlyn loved all of her gifts and had a little fun playing around.

She especially loved the mirror we got her.

After all this morning's excitement she's having herself a little nap. Then we're off to see the grandparents and continue the adventure of Caitlyn's First Christmas.

I hope all of you have a wonderful Christmas full of joy and family fun!!

Special Moments and Milestones

Over the last couple of days it seems like Caitlyn has grown up so much. She's nearly 9 months old already which is just incredible. She's been here and a part of our family for longer than I was pregnant. Pretty crazy! It just goes to show that time is flying by and has no intention of slowing down.

Daddy's birthday was the 20th and while yes, she did pick out a lovely tie clip for his birthday gift she also gave him something WAY more special. She waived hello to him when he came home from work yesterday!! We've been showing her the wave for maybe a week and yesterday on her father's birthday she finally demonstrated what she learned.

But wait it gets better... so much better...

Yesterday morning in bed she said "mama" at least I'm pretty sure she said mama and Brock heard it too. Can you believe it, her first word :) Makes my heart melt. Then in the evening she said it again and I did a little happy dance.  I feel so honored and excited that her first word was mama.

Its great that she's so balanced with her special treats, one for mommy and one for daddy. So much fun!

Now a quick look at our favorite morning activity. The basket of toys that gets pulled out and promptly dumped every morning.

Look mama I got it!

Guilted into buying?

Have you ever been made to feel guilty in order to be pressured into making a purchase?

You'll recall a few weeks ago I had a bad shopping experience. Well, when I went to pick up my pictures I was very surprised that they had taken it upon themselves to print 5 extra sheets of pictures for $25. They had initially offered me a single sheet of portraits for $20. I had agreed to purchase 1 sheet of wallets for our immediate family.

At the time this happened I was very upset. I mean, why would any company put someone on the spot like that. If I say no to buying these portraits they go to waste. If I say yes, I'm telling this company that its okay to put people on the spot and guilt them into buying pictures they never ordered and might not be able to afford.

In the end I said no, I just can't support this kind of business practice.  I even went as far as to email my complaint to the company, using their customer feedback form on their corporate website.

Their defense to this bad business practice was that it is industry standard to send spec sheets at a reduced cost and 90% of the sheets are not returned. I wonder if they ever poll their customers to find out why they bought the pictures.

Its one thing to give the customer a choice to buy sheets at a reduced cost prior to printing them and another to surprise them with pre-printed sheets when they arrive to pick up their purchase. I'm willing to bet that a large majority of those people felt guilty or obligated to purchase the sheets because they had already been printed and would go to waste.

Just because 90% of sheets are sold, does that make it the right thing to do? Has this company gone to far? Am I just overreacting?

Interested to hear your feedback.

Cat Love

I'm not sure if she actually likes her, or if its just a desperate attempt for attention. All I know is I'm darn happy our cat tolerates Caitlyn.

Any stranger who has been to our home will tell you that our cat is psycho not friendly and one of the questions we were asked the most before Caitlyn was born was what we would do with the cat.  As much as I appreciated everyone's concern I knew there was no way we could get rid of our cat, at least not without trying to have her and Caitlyn get along.

Boy am I glad I took that risk. Don't mind Brock, he's not much of a fan of me taking pictures in the morning.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

Usually we have snow where we live in the month of November but this year it has been surprisingly snow free, until now!

Last Friday when we introduced Caitlyn to snow  there was only about two inches on the ground. Since then we've turned into a winter wonderland and have had more than two feet worth of snow. There's no sign of stopping until maybe Thursday.

One of my Facebook friends described it best when she said "Mother Nature has the snow flu and can't stop puking on us"

The schools are closed, the buses are canceled and there hasn't been any mail delivery. Luckily we have snow fairies that come and shovel our sidewalk (the joys of condo living). Caitlyn and I have been stuck in the house since Sunday and I don't think we'll be going anywhere for the rest of the week if this keeps up.

I've seriously considered letting her open her Christmas gifts early since I'm running out of ideas to occupy our day. We're usually out of the house at least once a day so this being stuck at home is giving me cabin fever already. Thank goodness for Baby Einstein who helps me in entertaining duties for a half hour.

To prove that I'm really not exaggerating, here are some pictures of the snow outside our home.

Let It Snow

Yippee!!

Friday we finally had enough snow that I could take Caitlyn out to introduce her to it. I had been waiting all day for her Daddy to get home so he could take part in her first introduction to snow. We got all bundled up and then headed out to the front yard.

We tried standing in the snow

Then we sat in the snow

and of course some cuddling was required to warm up

All in all, Caitlyn could care less about snow. She just sort of sat there with a "what are you doing to me" look on her face while we took pictures and threw snowballs at her.

But at least we've captured the memories, what more can we ask for.

Attempt #1 at Feeding Herself

Caitlyn was being a little turd at dinner and kept fussing, at one point she started trying to grab her bowl of apple and oatmeal. Since it was bath night I figured, why not? and let her have it.

Photobucket

She kept trying to pick up the bowl and dump it so I switched it to a bowl with a suction cup.

It didn't work out so well.

Photobucket

 Look Mommy, all done!

I'm pretty sure she got maybe a little bit of it in her mouth.

Happy Friday!

25 days left

I can't get enough of Christmas right now.

The tree is trimmed

The mantle is prepped

and my little Elf is ready and extra happy

have I mentioned how much I love this season.

I picked out Caitlyn's very first ornament, its so sweet.

I can't wait for her first Christmas. That's one of the joys I didn't expect, experiencing all of Caitlyn's firsts and being so happy and excited. Its wonderful to watch your child's eyes light up when they see a Christmas tree for the first time, or hold an ornament and examine it with intense curiosity.

Here's to counting down the next 25 days until my sweet baby girl's first Christmas
