It's official we're "those parents"

You know the ones that get up early Saturday morning, drag their kids out of the house at the crack of dawn and head yard saling. In all fairness, I figure since Caitlyn likes to get us up at 7am (woo hoo she slept in) then I might as well make good use of the morning.

We were actually looking for a Superyard to use at my mom's camper in the summer time. However I'm just not willing to spend $100 for it. So we took off in search of a used one at a local yard sale. We drove from house to house, sometimes getting out and sometimes just scoping things from the street. Unfortunately we didn't get lucky and never found a Superyard. We did end up finding a couch, and I think it was a steal. Caitlyn's been playing on it, sitting on it and climbing all over it. She's having a lot of fun so totally worth the $2.

What's this new piece of furniture to explore?

What do you mean "sit like a lady"?

Is this better?

My little girl is growing up fast. She's not walking yet, but she's learning to drive.

All in all a pretty darn good weekend. We got lots of work done around the house and Caitlyn had a blast playing.

Finally a Long Weekend

We finally got a beautiful long weekend! The weather was AMAZING and no work for three whole days!

We started the weekend with some Friday night company. Saturday morning Caitlyn was up at 5:30am, not cool Caitlyn, not cool. We took off to my Mom's camper for the first time this summer. It was so beautiful. Being right by the lake helped us to stay cool on a very hot day and as Brock says, I like going there because there's lots of family to watch Caitlyn while we relax and drink a few beers.

So awesome!!

We continued on our way to Chatham and spent Saturday evening just the three of us, relaxing. Thankfully we went to bed around 11pm because Caitlyn was up at what time?? Oh that's right, 5:30am... have I mentioned how not cool that is. On the bright side, we were both showered and ready to start the day by 8:00am and had lots of opportunity to visit with Brock's mom and some of his extended family.

We then met up with friends of ours for dinner and ended up spending the night. Luckily Caitlyn slept in until 6am Monday morning, in my opinion still not good enough though. I really have to find a way to her back to sleeping in until at least 7am. We used to be able to bring her to bed with us and she would go back to sleep but not anymore. Apparently that has turned into play time and she prefers to crawl all over us and pull on Daddy's eyelids. We're going to be trying some light blocking curtains this week as she started waking up earlier as the days got longer, so I'm hoping if it stays dark in her room maybe she'll sleep in a little bit more.

On to the fun stuff, you have never seen a kid get so excited over a ball. She laughed and squealed with delight. Its probably the only thing that made getting up at 5:30am worthwhile.

My favorite picture of the weekend. Love these special father daughter moments.

I couldn't be more thankful for the recharge this weekend gave me. It's been a very stressful month personally and professionally and spending some quality time with my wonderful family is just what I needed.

Hope you enjoyed your weekend!

No animals were harmed in the making of this post

I was working from home this morning and the cat started going crazy. When I checked out what she doing I found this...

Yes, that is a mouse hiding out in the wheel of Caitlyn's toy stroller. Obviously by this point I'm losing my mind and have no idea how I'm going to catch this thing. I took the above picture and emailed it to Brock who works about 5 minutes away from home. Luckily he came home right away to help me catch it. Mostly I danced around the living room losing it because the mouse exited his little hideaway and ran under the couch then climbed our curtains where Brock was able to catch it. The mouse was released down the road and I'm hoping that he never decides to come back.

On the bright side, at least it motivated me to take a picture :)

Anyway, back to my regularly scheduled work day.

Challenging Times

Hi there, I know I've been gone a while and I'm hoping to be back in blogging mode again soon. I've been back to work now for about a month and a half and I have to admit it's been more challenging than I thought it would be. Between caring for Caitlyn, cooking, cleaning and general up keep of the house I find I have little time for anything else during the week. Throw in a couple of work trips that take me away from home for three days at a time and I really fall behind on all of my other hobbies.

Can you believe I've only taken about 20 pictures of Caitlyn since I've been back to work. This is a kid who has over 1500 pictures saved on my computer from her first year. Add in the fact that I haven't the time or energy to bring her to our hometown for family visits and suddenly things are looking kind of down. Yes, this is turning into a bit of a whiny post but at the same time I know that there are other Moms out there going through the same thing. So guess what, you're not alone.

We often pretend that things are going well and only blog about the happy times, but the reality is that being a working mom is stressful stuff. You are pulled in many different directions and often expectations that are put on you by yourself and others are too high. This sets us up for a bit of failure and disappointment and its hard sometimes to get past it. I wish that I could live closer to my family so that we could visit more often. I wish that I didn't have to work so that I could raise my daughter myself. I wish that I didn't need to sleep so that I could wash my floors and bake a pie.

The reality though is that I'm not going to get what I wish for so I make due with what I have which in actuality is all I really need. An amazing daughter who makes me laugh. A husband who is so supportive and helpful.  A family who realizes how busy life can be and makes the most of the time we have together. A grocery store that's close by and has a great bakery section and of course a dirty but not entirely filthy floor (kids need dirt for their immune system after all, or so they say).

I'm also very grateful for bubbles and how they my little girl so happy.
